Florida Pompano

Also known as papino and Carolina pompano, the Florida pompano suffered a drastic population dropoff from gill-netting. That practice was banned and these fish are returning to the beach. You can catch them with sand fleas, which are small crustaceans that anyone can find while shelling.

This is an amazing fish for eating. It is also a very hard fighter, a lot like its big brother, the permit.
